Keeping your eyes healthy does not always visit your eye doctor regularly, or do eye exercises. Watching the foods you eat, and eating good foods for eye health is also one way to keep your eyes healthy. What foods can help improve your vision, and what foods are not good?
Foods for eyes
Avocado is often underestimated and shunned because it is considered to make fat. While consuming avocado can cut cholesterol and help fight other diseases. Avocados contain lots of lutein and rich in vitamin E. Avocados can also increase carotenoid levels in other foods. Eating avocado with spinach and carrots can certainly increase the nutrients levels that can nourish your eyes.
Eggs, especially egg yolks give some of the nutrients needed for vision health. Eating one egg each day can increase the lutein levels and zeaxanthin in the blood by 25 – 30%. Eggs are also a source of vitamins A, B, and zinc.
Salmon is often called brain food. Though vitamin A, D, and omega-3 contained by salmon is not only good for the brain, but also the eyes and the body. Many fish like salmon also contain good nutrition for the brain and eyes.
4. Garlic and onion
Garlic can increase the immune system, cure fever, lower bad cholesterol, and even cut parasites in the body. Not surprisingly, garlic is also good for eye health. Garlic and onions are rich in sulfur that the body needs to produce glutathione. Glutathione is a great antioxidant for the lens of the eye. Garlic and onion are also good for maintaining eye health.
5. Green vegetables
Spinach, kale, mustard, broccoli, and cabbage are green vegetables. They contain many vitamins and minerals including folic acid, vitamin A, B12, vitamin C, calcium, and are rich in carotenoids (especially lutein and zeaxathin). Remember, green vegetables should not be over cooked or you will lose all the nutrients.
6. Yellow fruits
Carrots, are classic foods that can help improve eye health. In addition to carrots, other yellow and orange fruits such as squash, squeeze, and sweet potatoes also contain vitamin A (beta carotene) that is good for the retina and can protect your eyes from the sun.
7. Dark chocolate, black berries, and red wine
Black chocolate has flavonoids that can protect blood vessels in your eyes. A glass of red wine every day can also offer several benefits for health including for eye health, heart, and blood circulation. While black berries (bilberries) contain anthocyanosides that add blood flow to the eye.
To prevent the loss of your vision, you should avoid foods with excess sugar and MSG. MSG contains neurotoxin that can cause glaucoma.
